When the Phoenix Fire Fades

Low-rank mage Elara endures years of cruelty from her proud phoenix familiar, Lucien, until she finally chooses to leave. She rescues Kael, a gentle dragonborn dismissed as defective, and their bond helps them both heal and grow as his dormant power awakens. When Lucien realizes too late what he has lost, Elara refuses to return, choosing self-worth, freedom, and a love built on respect.
